purchased new by Borge Persson's Uncle and put in a damp shed 48 years
ago with only 1,200Kms on the clock. The machine was produced in 1950
in Eisenach so is technically an EMW rather than a BMW. but these
photos present a superb guide of an original machine for restoration
purposes. Restoration of this bike is about to be undertaken. The
restoration can be followed as it progresses by following this link to

Owned and restored
by John Halls. This is a very original machine
as it was found in the 1990’s in a monastery in Kwa-Zululand and were
in had been used by their monks as transport to the local villages. It
was ordered and delivered from BMW in June 1935 by a Benedictine Abbey
near Munich and then sent to South Africa. Engine and frame numbers
are the same the production line records and is one to the oldest R12
still running. The only difference from original spec is that I have
added 1936 Art Deco mudguards as they add to the machines lines. It is
also a great bike to ride all day without feeling tired ie a true
touring machine as it was designed to be.
